Mary Anning Rocks Project

There’s a wonderful effort going on in England to construct a statue in honor of noted British geological researcher Mary Anning, a pioneer of paleontology who studied fossilized remains on the cliffs of Lyme Regis. After her death in 1847, her life’s work was acknowledged by the Geological Society of London which did not admit women until 1907.

The Mary Anning Rocks project was started by Evie Swire at age 11 with a goal of commemorating Mary with a statue. What an incredible project by an ambitious young woman. Learn more about the project and its fundraising efforts here!
